When traveling to Serbia, besides the great variety of sites to see and things do, shopping, in and of itself, can be also be very satisfying as you find yourself browsing through, and picking up, the perfect souvenir to take back home. Due to the wealth of traditional and authentic handicrafts, and handmade souvenirs, relics, multiethnic costumes from all parts of the country, alcoholic drinks, and the specialties of local cuisine, tourists enjoy shopping in Belgrade ShoppingSerbia with enough selection to warrant a shopping holiday. Interesting regional items characteristic for the Serbian highlands south of Belgrade are rakia (strong brandy), sajkaca (traditional hats from west Serbia), opanak (authentic leather shoes), slatko (jarred, candied fruits), prsut (smoked ham) and in the northern Serbian province Vojvodina can be found bermet (sweet fortified wine), kulen (a special kind of smoked spicy sausage), and licitersko srce (heart shaped candy). All of these are just some of the items our team recommends while you shop your way through Serbia.

Belgrade & Vojvodina Shopping Guide

Belgrade, being the capital of Serbia and a large Balkan metropolis, is the place where you can find a wide variety of goods for sale. Starting with souvenirs stands, to fashion stores in a range of different prices in the pedestrian zone of Knez Mihalova Street, Terazije Square and Kralja Aleksandra Boulevard, to the traditional green and flea markets or even big, modern shopping malls, shopping in Belgrade truly shines with its choices.

Practical tourist guides and books, and popular CDs and DVDs of traditional tambourine, trumpet and folk music can be found all throughout Belgrade. For memorable and nostalgic souvenirs, shopping stands at the entrance to Kalemegdan Fortress offer quite unique and interesting items like paper-money from the inflation period, red five-star emblems symbolizing communism and the Tito regime, traditional costumes and other must haves. If you want to get more familiar with everyday life in Belgrade and live like the locals, the best way is to go out for a day of shopping.

Vojvodina is Serbia's Northern Province, known for its cultural heritage, multi-ethnicity of more than 20 different ethnic groups, and its centuries of influences from Western and Eastern civilizations. The largest number of small souvenir shops are in Novi Sad, the capital of Vojvodina. In the pedestrian zone of the city, nestled in the charming, hidden passages of Zmaj Jovina and Dunavska streets, small souvenir shops offer something unique and regional for you to take home. Flea and green markets, and bigger malls are also great places to buy all kinds of interesting presents, traditional handicrafts and clothing, traditional sweets, and many other Vojvodinian specialties. We have also prepared a list of interesting shops from Subotica and Palic Lake resort, Kovacica village, Fruska Gora Mountain and other interesting destinations from this region to ensure you don't return home empty handed while shopping in Serbia.

Green Markets & Flea Markets

Belgrade ShoppingGreen and flea markets in every big and even some of the smaller cities in Serbia are great places where you can see and meet people from all parts of Serbia and observe their customs, especially from the rural areas. Local people in these special markets, also called ‘'pijaca'', sell healthy and organic food, domestic fruits and vegetables, and a variety of different and regional goods. If you are interested in locally made and high quality food, you should definitely try the ‘'slatko od sumskih jagoda'' (jarred, candied forest strawberries) or kajmak (special kind of cream cheese). For authentic (and the best) green markets, we recommend Zeleni venac and Kalenić pijaca in Belgrade, and Futoška and Limanska pijaca in Novi Sad.

For absolute rock-bottom prices, sheer variety and fantastic bargains, the flea market is the perfect place to visit. Known as Buvljak, this market has been recently revamped and improved, and has stands selling everything across the shopping spectrum - from bicycles to home appliances, clothes and footwear.

For the ubiquitous cheap Chinese goods, visitors can go to the Blok 70 shopping mall in New Belgrade. The mall has a number of small vendors selling a huge variety of good at very low prices. Visitors should keep in mind that bargain over the prices is always recommended here, in order to get them to lower prices.

Shopping malls

Quality imported brand name foot wear and fashion are available in Serbian shopping stores and in small malls like Cumicevo Sokace or Terazije Square in Belgrade, or shops in numerous passages in Zmaj Jovina or Dunavska Streets in Novi Sad. After a long day of shopping, we're happy to recommend some of Belgrade's or Vojvodina's restaurants where you can try delicious Serbian food and cuisine.

Belgrade ShoppingFor ease of shopping and to find all the important and big name brands under one roof, visitors can go to the big shopping malls, like Delta City , Zara or Usce in Belgrade, and Merkator or Bazzar in Novi Sad. These shopping malls are fairly new and ideal for true the shopping enthusiast. As the newest entrants on the mall scene, these are places with the highest quality items like jewellery, eye wear, home décor, children's toys, undergarments, fashionable clothing and accessories, ensuring shoppers in Serbia that everything from the most unique Serbian handicrafts to the latest designer fashion can be found.
